Mr. Shields’ practice includes representation of creditors, trustees and debtors with an emphasis on creditor’s rights. He has practiced in Federal Bankruptcy Courts in the states of Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, California, Texas, Illinois, and New York. Mr. Shields represents lenders in defending lender liability claims and in negotiating complex loan restructures and workouts. He also represents Parties in commercial litigation in State and Federal Courts.
Representative work includes; successful defense of a Utah national bank in multi-million lender liability trial; successful confirmation and implementation of debtor’s Chapter 11 plan of reorganization for a publicly traded corporation; successful confirmation and implementation of creditor’s Chapter 11 plans of reorganization; representation of the court-appointed fiduciary in the reformation and restructuring of the $100 million plus United Effort Plan Trust; and representation of the East Side Transition Team in the reorganization of the Jordan School District into the Canyons School District.
Mr. Shields has served as the President of the Utah Bankruptcy Lawyers’ Forum (2000). He also currently serves as a Director of The Pitney Bowes Bank and as a member of the Court approved Bankruptcy Mediation panel for U.S. Courts for the District of Utah.
